A recharge evacuates the old refrigerant, pulls a vacuum to remove moisture, and refills the system to the manufacturer specification. Cars using the newer R-1234yf refrigerant cost substantially more to recharge than older R-134a systems, because the refrigerant itself is far more expensive.
