Report Summary

Status of the eight core checks that make up the risk score.

What does this risk score mean?

The risk score weighs every check in this report into a single number from 0 to 100 — higher means more risk. This vehicle has 5 checks that returned a finding, with the most serious shown first. A finding is not automatically a reason to walk away, but each one is a question to put to the seller before you agree a price.

Why it matters: Sellers price cars on condition and mileage. A reported accident, title brand or open recall gives you documented grounds to negotiate, or to walk away before you have committed money.

Mileage

13 odometer readings reported over the vehicle's life. Last reported: 142,490 mi.

No rollback detected
Why does mileage history matter?

Each reading is captured at a title transfer, inspection, service visit or auction sale and shown in date order. Readings that rise steadily are consistent with genuine use. A verified mileage history is one of the few ways to confirm a seller's odometer claim independently.

Why it matters: Mileage drives price more than almost any other factor. A gap of several years with no recorded reading is worth asking about — it is where an unrecorded change is easiest to hide.

Title, theft & ownership

Title brands, police theft registries and the ownership record.

What does this title brand mean?

This vehicle carries the following title brands: salvage, rebuilt or rebuildable. A title brand is a permanent designation added by a titling authority after a significant event. A salvage brand means an insurer declared the vehicle a total loss. Rebuilt means a salvage vehicle was repaired and passed re-inspection. Flood means water damage was recorded, and lemon means the manufacturer bought the vehicle back for a defect it could not fix.

Why it matters: A branded title typically reduces resale value by a substantial margin, can make full insurance coverage harder or costlier to obtain, and narrows the pool of buyers when you come to sell. Some lenders will not finance a branded vehicle at all.

Accident & damage records

Damage checks across insurance, auction and title databases.

5 indicators found
What does this damage history mean?

This vehicle has 5 reported damage records. Records come from insurance claims, auction condition reports and repair filings, and describe the damage as it was assessed at the time — not the quality of any repair carried out afterwards.

Why it matters: Structural or airbag-related damage affects safety and resale value most. Damage repaired privately in cash never reaches any database, so a clean damage history is reassuring but is not proof the car was never hit — inspect the panel gaps and paint finish yourself.

What do these auction records mean?

This vehicle was listed at a salvage or wholesale auction. Auction records include the condition grade assigned by the auction house, the damage recorded at intake, the sale price, and photographs taken on the day. Vehicles reach salvage auctions mainly after an insurer declares them a total loss.

Why it matters: Auction photos are the closest thing to seeing the damage first-hand, and they are dated. Compare them against the car in front of you: they show what was wrong then, and the gap between those photos and the vehicle today is exactly the repair work you are being asked to trust.

Safety

NHTSA crash-test ratings, owner complaints, and safety recalls for this model.

What does an open recall mean?

This vehicle has 9 open safety recalls across the U.S. (NHTSA) and Canadian (Transport Canada) registries. A recall is issued when a manufacturer or regulator identifies a defect that poses a safety risk. "Open" means the remedy has not been recorded as completed on this VIN.

Why it matters: Recall repairs are performed free of charge by any franchised dealer, regardless of the vehicle's age or how many owners it has had. An open recall is therefore one of the few findings on a report you can resolve at no cost — but until it is done, the defect is still present.

I am submitting a formal vehicle-safety complaint regarding my 2016 Ford Escape. My vehicle is included in NHTSA Safety Recall 25V695 / Ford Campaign 25SA9 concerning a rearview camera that may display a blank, distorted, or intermittent image while the vehicle is in reverse. My vehicle is experiencing camera unavailable and also no audio at all. I first reported this problem to Ford or an authorized Ford dealer about a year ago. I subsequently contacted Autonation ford wholfchase and Ford Motor Company. My Ford case number is CXHO8776034. Despite my repeated attempts to obtain the recall repair, the recall remains incomplete. Ford and/or its dealer has told me repair solution is not available. Audio issue and rearview backup camera are tendem issue. I asked while waiting on parts, they can fix audio issue to aid me in reverse. They said for audio issue you can leave your car with us however it will take about 4-6 week that I have to pay for. No loaner vehicle will be provided. Ford has not provided me with: A confirmed repair date A meaningful parts-delivery date An alternative Ford dealer capable of completing the recall A written plan for correcting the safety defect The underlying camera problem has existed for more than a year. I understand that the formal recall was issued on October 13, 2025, and that Ford originally anticipated the final remedy in June 2026. This is not merely a customer-service inconvenience. The defective rearview camera reduces my ability to see pedestrians, children, vehicles, and objects behind the vehicle while reversing, increasing the risk of a collision. I must continue operating a vehicle with a known and unrepaired safety defect through no fault of my own. My vehicle also has a complete loss of audio with rearview camera at the same time. The audio failure affects radio/parking-assistance tones/seatbelt warning/door warning/navigation prompts/other warning sounds.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while in reverse(R), the rear-view camera displayed an upside-down image or a blue screen. In additional to the camera failure, the audio sounds and notification failed to operate as needed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact later received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V695000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted about the failure and was informed that the audio failure might be linked to the camera failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, and the contact was provided a case number. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

U.S. RECALLS (NHTSA) 6 recalls
Air bags: knee bolster06/25/2017

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016 Ford Escape vehicles. The driver's knee airbag modules installed in these vehicles were produced without the inflator gas generant material, and, as a result, the air bags may not inflate properly in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection." In the event of a crash, if the driver's knee air bag does not inflate as intended, the driver has an increased risk of injury.

Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace driver's knee air bag, free of charge. The recall began on August 8, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17C11.

Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

Powertrain06/13/2022

Issue: On certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.

CANADIAN RECALLS (TRANSPORT CANADA) 3 recalls
Electrical01/09/2026

On certain vehicles, the engine block heater could leak coolant. If this happens, the block heater could short circuit when it's plugged in. Note: This recall only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L engine. A short circuit can create the risk of a fire.

Remedy: To reduce the safety risk, Ford advises you not to use the engine block heater until the recall repairs have been completed. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the block heater. Alternatively, owners can choose to have the dealership permanently disable the engine block heater.

Typical Repair Costs

Estimated parts and labour ranges for the most common repairs on this model.

8 of 40 repairs
Air Conditioning - Replace Compressor$436 – $884

When temperatures rise, your vehicle’s air conditioning system has to work harder to keep you cool. Over time, the A/C may not blow as cold as you want, even though the control is at the coldest setting. Eventually, the compressor will wear out and need to be replaced. Probably the most important part of the air conditioning system, the compressor ensures a constant flow of refrigerant to cool the air channeled into the passenger cabin. Lack of cold air plus noises from clattering bearings or a squealing belt are signs of compressor failure. Although this repair is relatively straightforward, it’s best done by a professional versed in evacuating and recharging the compressor’s refrigerant.

Parts$436 – $590
Labor$654 – $884
Air Conditioning - Recharge$86 – $143

Over time, air conditioning may not blow as cold as when the car was new. That means that the refrigerant used in the air conditioning compressor is no longer capable of cooling. This service involves determining if the refrigerant is lost, which means there’s a leak in the system that needs to be repaired (it may be a faulty seal or connector) or merely has lost its ability to cool. This service is best performed by a service technician.

Parts$86 – $116
Labor$105 – $143
Wheels - Alignment$143 – $193

Alignment is the process of making sure all 4 wheels point in the same direction, which will cause the vehicle to drive straight and not drift. Performing this service regularly (yearly or after the vehicle starts drifting) will extend the life of your tires. Alignment is measured in degrees of camber (tire leaning inward or outward), caster (forward or backward slope of steering components in relation to the McPherson struts) and toe (the direction the tires are pointing). Toe-in means that the tires are pointing inward; toe-out means that the tires are pointing outward. Most vehicles are “averaged” for everyday driving.

Labor$143 – $193
Battery - Replace$41 – $220

Diamonds may be forever, but batteries are not. A car battery lasts approximately 3-4 years – or less in regions with high heat and humidity. A key sign of pending failure could be sluggish starting cycle. Many mechanics suggest having a battery “load tested” once every two years, in an attempt to predict just how much life may be left in your battery.

Parts$162 – $220
Labor$41 – $55
Brakes - Adjust$94 – $128

Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Modern braking systems typically are self-adjusting to ensure that the brake pad maintains constant contact with the braking surface on a rotor or drum when the brakes are applied. Older brakes may need periodic adjustment where the pad is realigned to close the gap between it and the surface by tightening adjustment screws in the brake mechanism.

Parts
Labor$94 – $128
Brake Fluid - Flush Fluid & Bleed Brakes$73 – $120

Air in the brake lines can create a spongy feeling when you apply the brakes. Bleeding the brake lines usually removes the air, but it isn’t a job for the faint of heart. Better left to professionals, newer ABS braking systems require specialized equipment to complete the job.

Parts$73 – $99
Labor$89 – $120
Brakes - Replace Pads & Rotors$187 – $383

Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Made of ceramic, organic or metallic material, brake pads squeeze against the brake disc rotors to slow the vehicle down. Every time you apply the brakes, the pads wear down a tiny bit. Eventually a wear indicator starts squeaking to tell you it’s time to replace the brake pads.  A mechanic can examine brake pad thickness during a tire rotation or other service. Sometimes you feel a vibration while applying the brakes. That’s a sign that you may need to  resurface or  replace the brake rotors. Resurfacing a brake rotor will extend the life of the rotors by grinding a tiny amount of the metal surface area away to remove any irregularities or other imperfections that have cropped up over time. After a while, the entire brake rotor may need replacement if it has become too thin (through repeated grindings) or warped from variations in temperature. Don’t delay, as brakes are probably one of the most critical safety devices on your vehicle, right up there with seat belts.

Parts$282 – $383
Labor$187 – $254
Brakes - Replace Pads$95 – $193

Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Made of ceramic, organic or metallic material, brake pads squeeze against the brake disc rotors to slow the vehicle down. Every time you apply the brakes, the pads wear down a tiny bit. Eventually a wear indicator starts squeaking to tell you it’s time to replace the brake pads. It’s always better to replace the pads before they start squeaking, to avoid damaging the brake rotors. A mechanic can check brake pad thickness during a tire rotation or other service. The number of miles you can go before replacing the brake pads really depends on your driving style.

What this report is, where its records come from, and how to read them.

Data sources. This report is compiled from public records and third-party data, which may include state and provincial motor-vehicle titling agencies, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Transport Canada, insurance and salvage auction feeds, dealer listing networks and licensed data suppliers. Records are only as complete as those agencies and suppliers make them: an event that was never reported to them cannot appear here, and the absence of a record is not proof that an event did not occur. The information reflects what was available on the generation date shown above; records may be added, corrected or removed after that date.

Odometer, title and ownership records. Mileage readings are shown as they were reported at each event and are not verified by Vektracer. A rollback or inconsistency flag is an indicator derived from those readings, not a finding of fact. Title brands and ownership counts follow the definitions of the issuing jurisdiction, which vary from state to state and province to province, and reporting delays mean the most recent title activity may not yet be reflected.

Factory specification, warranty, maintenance and cost figures. Specifications, original pricing, factory warranty terms, IIHS ratings, maintenance schedules, typical repair costs and five-year cost-of-ownership figures describe the year, make, model and trim decoded from the VIN as it left the factory. They are model-level reference data supplied by a licensed vehicle-data provider, not observations of this specific vehicle. Warranty terms run from the original in-service date and may have expired; repair and ownership costs are regional estimates, not quotes.

Recalls. Recalls are matched to this VIN from the NHTSA and Transport Canada registries. Whether a recall remedy has actually been completed on this vehicle should be confirmed with a franchised dealer using the VIN, since completion records can lag the manufacturer's own systems.

Market value and photos. Market values are statistical estimates for vehicles of this year, make, model and condition band and are not an appraisal of this vehicle. Photos marked as stock images show the model in general, not the vehicle this report describes.

Not a consumer report. This report is not a consumer report as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and must not be used to establish eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing or any other purpose governed by the FCRA or by equivalent Canadian consumer-reporting legislation.

Not a substitute for an inspection. A vehicle history report is NOT a substitute for an independent vehicle inspection. Before making a decision to purchase a vehicle, consumers are strongly encouraged to also obtain an independent vehicle inspection to ensure the vehicle does not have hidden damage.
