Serbia opened to used American cars with a regulation effective 30 September 2023, and the questions have not stopped since on garaža.rs, Krstarica and the registration FAQ sites. Homologation is the blocker everyone discusses. Whether the car was a US total loss is the question nobody asks until it is too late.
The Uredba o uvozu motornih vozila made it possible to import used vehicles from the United States that meet Serbian emissions and technical rules. Reports of Euro 3 and Euro 4 bans from 2024 and a planned post-2014-only rule were followed by reports of postponements; check the current rule before buying anything older.
Serbian homologation checks that the vehicle conforms to the rules: lighting, emissions, identification. It does not check whether the car was flooded in Louisiana. One Serbian broker offers a "free check by chassis number" as a lead magnet; the free archives show auction bids. Neither shows the US title brand or the odometer sequence.
A dealer in Zemun specialises in imports from Canada, and Krstarica threads ask about the Canada route regularly. Canadian cars carry provincial records and, often, an earlier American history. Both are covered by the same VIN check.
